Done:Replaced slave clutch cylinder:
This was awkward, trying to remove the slave cylinder... but now its
got a decent (non-leaking) one, and upgraded braided tubes so they
should last a decent amount of time. So now i can get the mini in
and out of gear! Good news is all the gears work!! Phew!
Got engine firing on all 4 cylinders:
Thanks to a helful passer by, who happened to know about mini's, i
found out my mini was only firing on 2 (yes 2) of the 4 cylinders!
A quick change of leads/plugs/points helped, but it looked like the
valves were sticking. Not to worry... those old and grubby valves
will be coming out soon enough it turns out!
De-coked cylinders and valves:
While the engine head was off, it'd be rude not to put a wire brush
in a dril and attack the black carbon and soot in the cylinders and
pistons!! They were about 3mm thick in some places, and took some real
going at. Very satisfying though, when it looks all shiny afterwards!
Fitted performance head:
This is a 12G202 engine head - the same as they had on early mini coopers!
All shined up and clean, ready to go on my 998cc block, giving it a
healthy HorsePower boost. Plus, new valves means that all the cylinders
will fire, so everyones a winner! New head gasket in there too!
Replaced 2 very dodgy wheelsThese were shocking - actually down to the wire on the inside edge! Stripped interior down, and hooveredand found 5p! Full oil and filter changeIt was messy, but it had to be done! |
