Ah, hello officer, my friend and i are taking part in a charity banger rally, we're driving to naples in italy, along with some other people, over four days.To naples?! isn't that a bit far?
Yeah, it's about 1500 miles from our start point (staples corner). Thats the point though, the rally is called staples2naples and it's meant to be a bit of a challenge. We're only allowed to drive bangers, 12 years or older, costing us around £100... hence this little mini! The rally has been subtitled: "the banger rally for wage slaves"!So is this your banger, sir?
Yup yup yup... its a 1987 mini, bought for (very slightly over) £100. When we bought it, it had no MOT, tax, or even V5! It also needed quite a bit of work, including overhauling the clutch system, brakes, new tyres, and more! We thought a mini would be most fun though, and we like a bit of a challenge! Before we go, this little beast has to pass an MOT, and during the rally must be able to pass any police spot checks in the relevent country.How many countries are you visiting?
That varies... the minimum we can visit is 5 (England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy), though last year some people took a route through 11! The route also includes many italian passes, including Stelvio Pass - the most famous with no less then 50 hairpins on either side and gradients of 1 in 9! The scenery around there is truly breathtaking though.Have you been drinking tonight, sir?
Nope, dont worry... this little mini will do fine. I hope! Its got a whopping 25BHP engine and a 4 speed box... more than enough to drive me and phil (both over 6'2" and 15 stone) all the way! Needless to say, we're hoping to raise a lot of money for chairty!For charity, you say?
